Marudai Balasubramanian "BALU" obtained his Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India in 1987. He carried out postdoctoral work with Alan R. Katritzky at the Department of Chemistry, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida (1988-1992). He subsequently moved to Reilly Industries Inc., Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was a research chemist until 2002. His research interests include synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, particularly pyridine derivatives, and synthesis of intermediates for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, performance products, and heterocyclic polymers. In 2002, he joined Research Informatics at Pfizer Global Research and Development, Ann Arbor, Michigan, as information professional. In this capacity he provides scientists with chemistry and patent information from internal and external commercial databases and resources. He is author or co-author of many scientific papers and has written several reviews, chapters for monographs and comprehensive heterocyclic chemistry series. He currently serves as an international editorial board member of Heterocyclic Communications, an international journal of heterocyclic chemist
