Auto Classification: Can/Should AI replace You?
This presentation addresses machine learning techniques that can be used to categorize information. The session discusses the types of problems that are suitable (or unsuitable) for machine learning and catalogs strengths, weaknesses and requirements of current algorithms. The presentation closes with a brief discussion of what lies beyond machine learning.
The Springer Nature SciGraph – Building a Linked Data Knowledge Graph for the Scholarly Publishing Domain
We are pleased to introduce Springer Nature SciGraph, the new Linked Open Data platform aggregating data sources from Springer Nature and key partners from the scholarly domain. The Linked Open Data platform will initially collate information from across the research landscape, such as funders, research projects, conferences, affiliations and publications. Additional data, such as citations, patents, clinical trials and usage numbers will follow over time. This high quality data from trusted and reliable sources provides a rich semantic description of how information is related, as well as enabling innovative visualizations of the scholarly domain.
The "International Chemical Ontology Network"
The "International Chemical Ontology Network" is established by major chemical industries in order to elaborate and understand the connections in the Big Data collections of chemistry / pharmacology. The collections come from the different natural sciences and human sciences and can only be explained or experienced in overlapping structures and connections. In this way, new innovative approaches are to be defined, new knowledge generated, products produced and marketed. Thus, the whole value creation process can be simulated and defined in the initial phase of a project, and it is possible to counteract unfavorable developments even at a very early stage. The clear structure and the incorporation of all relevant and common rules will help to improve the understanding of overlapping structures in the research, development and production processes, which will lead to a considerable saving of costs and resources, Full innovation potential of the industry 4.0 approach.

Rankings of Large Company Main Patent Applicants’ in France
INPI started work in the area of patent rankings in 2002 with the creation of its observatory the observatory of intellectual property which resulted in the production of a series of main patent applicants’ ranking report each year.
These main patent applicants’ ranking reports issue the limits of interpretations of such rankings.
The beginning of the year is a time when different patent offices or organizations publish their rank of patent applicants. This study outlines and comments recent rankings of main patent offices’ patent rankings (French, American, European, PCT). This study also highlights methodologies used in these rankings which drive the results; and focus on the French case to stress the trend over time of French patent applicants’ ranking and limits of their interpretations.

Approaches of Web Information Analysis in a Day to Day Work Environment
Web scraping, content filtering, tagging and feeding web data into the day to day work environment takes many different shapes and requires an additional software stack that is blending well with existing big data analysis, text analysis and search technology.

Will Virtual Reality (VR) be changing the way we deal with information?
Over the past years there have been many new visualizations of data showing all sorts of graphs and layouts. But are we really thinking about new ways to look at data. Imagine using VR glasses and displaying your result set as a galaxy. How open are we to new technologies and what can they bring us?
What is Innovation and how can we measure it?
Robert Stembridge (Clarivate Analytics. Formerly the IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters, UK)
Innovation means many different things to many people. Ask five people and you will likely get ten answers. But all agree that it is a key driver behind the success of organizations, the growth of economies and provides major contributions in addressing global problems. This presentation will examine various analytical methods and possible metrics for measuring innovation and determining relative performance of organizations. The challenges involved in assessing innovation and how these can be addressed will be explored. The pros and cons associated with the metrics identified will also be discussed with a view to identifying a practical method for assessing innovation.
How to effectively monitor Technological Developments in IP
Jochen Spuck (ip-search - Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property , CH)
Modern, cutting-edge developments are not reflected in current patent classification systems, which tend to catalogue established technologies. Identifying patent portfolios in such emerging fields proves a challenging job for patent and technology experts.
Going beyond the mere identification of new IP, additional value may be added using a regional geographic weighting combined with consolidated portfolio owner information.
Effective monitoring of the technological field is achieved by training active-learning search engines to hunt for highly relevant patent documents, thus keeping IP portfolios for emerging technologies up to date. The system we have developed permits extremely accurate updates with drastically reduced noise and with low workload which have proven to be invaluable in a world of drastically increasing data blur.

Decoding the Gray Shades of Patent White Space Analysis
White space mapping helps businesses discover unserved markets that hold potential but do not have any products or services yet. With patents, the goal is to find promising technology areas where patents can be filed in order to strengthen ones portfolio or purely to block others. As the practice is not new, several techniques and visualizations are being used for Patent White space analysis. Using 3D Printing as an example, this presentation will focus on pitfalls in various approaches and recommend best practices for aligning the outcome of the white space analysis to your business objectives.
Datafari - Building an Open Source Enterprise Search Solution from Popular Building Blocks
Open source has allowed Big Data to emerge, and is now promoting Artificial Intelligence. Within the Search space, Apache Solr and Elasticsearch are the reference technologies, already widely used at a massive scale. Yet they remain building blocks, that target developers and not business users. In this presentation, we introduce Datafari, a complete open source Enterprise search solution, that embeds connectors to data sources, administration interfaces, scalability, semantic, security, and interoperability. We will be covering the following topics:
- Origin of the product
- Architecture and components
- Functionalities
- Demo
- Use cases in Oil&Gas and Nuclear industries
