Mihai Lupu is an Information Retrieval researcher with experience in distributed and domain specific text retrieval. He is currently employed as a researcher with the TU Wien and Research Studios Austria. At the same time, he is a private entrepreneur working as a contractor/consultant on matters of patent information retrieval and its evaluation. He has received his PhD degree from the Singapore-MIT Alliance at the National University of Singapore, where he has worked mostly on Information Retrieval on Peer-to-Peer Networks, but also briefly on Semantic Web techniques, as well as programming languages. Before his PhD, he had obtained an MSc degree in Parallel and Distributed Computing and a BSc degree in computer science from the “Al. I. Cuza” University in Iasi, Romania. Now, his research interests continue in the area of information retrieval, with emphasis on professional search in general and patent retrieval in particular.
